Duke of Edinburgh

Duke of Edinburgh TitleIntroduction

As a school we care about the holistic development of our young people. It is for this reason that we are delighted to offer The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award to pupils while at school. The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award gives our pupils the chance to develop for life and work, fulfil their potential and have a brighter future. Each level challenges pupils to develop new skills, work cohesively as a team and to overcome obstacles. Each group will have the opportunity to complete a minimum of three expeditions in a mountainous terrain around Northern Ireland. The question is, why wouldn’t you want to be part of Duke of Edinburgh?

With expansive interest and growing numbers in enrolment an application process has been implemented. Bronze students are required to complete and submit an application form which will be reviewed by the school’s Duke of Edinburgh Committee, lead by Mr Nicholl. Pupils interested in completing the Silver Award will have to complete and application and undergo a fitness test. The committee will liaise with the school’s PE department in this assessment. Any pupil can apply to be part of this award scheme (all relevant applications and criteria can be found below).

Although it may seem like the end of the world, it really isn’t. The quote, “If at first you don’t succeed, try, try again” comes to mind. This award is all about tenacity, therefore you need to pick yourself up and find a solution to your problem. Contact your local church or youth group as most run The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award. Contact an Open Award Centre, most run Bronze and Silver. Get involved in BB or Guides to complete your award. Failing all these options, you can always reapply the following year.
