Biodiversity Challenge with Fairview Primary

From the 14-16th June, Year 8 pupils were joined by P6 pupils from Fairview Primary School to carry out some Ecology Investigations in the Sixmile Water Park.  We learnt many important ecological techniques, such as using quadrats to investigate plant species and pooters to observe small invertebrate organisms.  One of the favourite activities was taking samples from the river to investigate the invertebrates which live in freshwater.  We found lots of freshwater shrimp and mayfly nymph as well as some leeches.  The three days were fantastic and Ballyclare Secondary School Year 8 pupils were brilliant in helping P6 pupils with their investigations.
