With a cast of 64, an offstage chorus of 30 and a backstage crew of 11 Ballyclare Secondary School transformed into Broadway for its production of Annie which took place on Wednesday 12th and Thursday 13th December 2018.
We welcomed the local primary schools to our dress rehearsal and this was very well received. Staring Lauren Ferguson from year 9 as Annie the 11-year-old orphan whose life was made miserable by Miss Hannigan played by Zara Davis, year 13. As with all musicals, the story ends well when Annie is adopted by Warbucks, a Wall Street billionaire starring Daniel Hamilton year 13. It wouldn’t be a Broadway show without a little twist to the story when Rooster and Lily, (Jack Brierley and Zoe Curry) the two crooks try to kidnap Annie and claim the reward of $50000 for themselves.
The cast have worked hard to prepare for the performances and have dedicated 3 afternoons a week since September to the production. Some memorable moments from our rehearsals include Zara falling over onstage and continuing to sing, costumes malfunctions and the senior pupils being outshone by the juniors when it came to learning lines. As a staff we appreciate all the hardwork, effort and commitment these pupils have given and it clearly showed in the fantastic performances that were delivered.
A massive thanks must also go to the 23 members of staff who were involved in the whole school production. Without them the set, lights, props, sound, costume and many other things would not have been possible. We also appreciate all the support from the wider school community and the many lovely comments about the production. See some of our favourites below.
