Ballyclare Secondary School’s show jumping team has had another progressive year. We welcomed both Molly McCartney and Chloe Stewart to the novice team and continue to look forward to seeing these girls develop within the squad; making the move from primary school level to the 85cm class is not an easy task!
However, both Molly and Chloe have committed to every competition date in which the hard work has clearly paid off, coming 2nd at the St Patrick’s Day Derby at Meadows Equestrian Centre. Well done girls!
The consistency of our open team continues to be a strength with Emma Ewing, Benjamin Gilmore, Jessica McConnell and Tori Jewiss having another fantastic year. The league at Meadows Equestrian Centre is a competitive and busy one; largely dominated by grammar schools. The team worked hard and with a positive, consistent and strategic approach the open team were placed 2nd in the league. This is a huge achievement for a team that have been working together for a very long time and to say I’m proud is a huge understatement!
The goal for the open team this year was to again qualify for the Balmoral Show. This is a relatively new schools’ competition in which 5 schools from the north compete against 5 schools from the south. On the 9th March 2019, the open team travelled to the RDA in Coleraine for one of the five regional qualifiers. Delightedly, they were placed 1st and have once again, qualified for this prestigious show jumping event on the final day of the Balmoral Show. We wish you all the best for Saturday 18th May. Your hard work and dedication have already paid off as you continue to prove the calibre of skill in the show jumping field.
