Soroptimist Public Speaking Competition

On Monday 30th November Sarah Logan and Robyn Millar from Year 12 competed in the Local Area Competition of the Soroptimist Public Speaking Competition at Monkstown Village Centre and, beating off stiff competition, achieved first and second places. The girls had to prepare speeches, for which they were given a variety of topics to choose from, which were not to be shorter than four minutes but no longer than six minutes in length.

Sarah Logan, who came first spoke very eloquently and emotively on the subject of “Striving for perfection – is it healthy?” and Robyn Millar, following closely behind in second place, spoke fluently and movingly on the subject of “Preventing human trafficking is the responsibility of?” Both girls had worked tirelessly researching their chosen topics and perfecting their delivery to ensure they did not exceed the six minutes. They were assessed on content, construction and style of presentation and delivery and impact.

Sarah is now through to the Northern Ireland Final which will be held on Saturday 6th February 2016 in Hillsborough Village Centre where she will have to deliver again her prepared speech on her chosen topic as well as speak for up to two minutes on a given subject for which she will have a matter of minutes to prepare for.

We congratulate both Sarah and Robyn in their achievement and wish Sarah good luck in preparing for the final in February.
