The Spring Concert took place on Wednesday 10th April 2019 in the school Assembly Hall. The event is an opportunity for the Music Department to showcase to the school and wider community what has been happening throughout the year. This year we were lead through the programme for the evening by our comperes Abigail Halligan in year 13 and Jasmine Shields in 8P.
The orchestra opened the evening playing 2 well known Disney hits and this was followed by Dylan Coyle on bagpipes. The Brass, Flute and Clarinet ensembles played what they had been working on throughout the year. We had the pleasure of two string ensembles this year as they performed for the final time before helping Caitlin and Zara-Jayne’s with the ensemble part their GCSE performance exam that was two days later.
We also took the audience back to our production of Annie and Daniel Hamilton and Lauren Ferguson gave a rendition of the well-loved show hit ‘I don’t need anything but you’. The three pupils who study AS Music performed one of the pieces from the performance examination programme and these were enjoyed by the whole audience. Zoe Curry also performed her last ever solo as she will be leaving us this year.
Our Junior and Senior choirs have enjoyed combining forces for a few events this year and we thought this wouldn’t be the exception. After performing their own pieces, they came together to bring the night to close singing ‘Seasons of Love’ from the musical Rent. They had only 2 rehearsals to pull it off.
We would like to thank all those who came to the Spring Concert for their continued support throughout the year. In particular, we would like to thank all our instrumental tutors who come into school and provide instrumental and vocal lessons for the pupils. We are already looking forward to next year’s Spring Concert where we will continue to showcase the talent and success stories from Ballyclare Secondary School Music Department. We hope to see you there.
