Under 15’s win the inaugural IRFU U15 Ulster High Schools Sevens

Ballyclare Secondary completed the hat-trick of trophies with winning the inaugural IRFU U15 Ulster High Schools Sevens finals at Terenure College RFC, Dublin on Thursday 10th May.

Ballyclare qualified for the finals day as one of two northern qualifiers when they won their Pool at the Northern Qualifier at Ballymena RFC. Ballyclare defeated Magherafelt High 21-19 and then had resounding victory over Strangford. Ballyclare then faced Sperrin Integrated in the final of the qualifier and lost a competitive final 24-12.

Ballyclare were joined by Sperrin Integrated, OLSPK and St. Patricks, Keady in the finals at Terenure College RFC. Ballyclare came from 21-0 down to beat St. Patricks, Keady 26-21 with Carson Todd, Ryan Henry, Adam Warren and Ashley Doherty all scoring tries. This set up a pulsating final against OLSPK, which saw Ballyclare take a 14-0 lead with tries from Ryan Henry and Adam Warren, however OLSPK came back with two tries to trail 14-12. With two minutes left Ballyclare increased their lead to 19-12 with another Ryan Henry try, however in the last play of the game OLSPK scored a converted try to level the scores 19-19. This meant that both schools shared the inaugural IRFU Ulster High Schools’ Sevens final.
