Year 8 Rugby Season

The Year 8 rugby season got underway with a four team blitz against neighbours Ballyclare High School. Thirty-two Year 8 pupils from Ballyclare Secondary took part, which is fantastic participation numbers. Each team played two matches each, with plenty of tries scored by all teams and each team recorded a victory. Unfortunately, adverse weather cancelled further games against Ballyclare High School and Larne Grammar School.

Ballyclare Secondary participated in the U12 High Schools’ Eastern Qualifier at Carrick RFC, and recorded an opening win against Ashfield 20-5 with two tries from Daniel Hull and one apiece from Max Kane and Lewis Kirk. Ballyclare then lost to St. Malachy’s 10-0. Ballyclare then lost Lagan College 20-10 with Bailey Nixon, Max Kane, Daniel Hull and Jacob McAuley. Finishing second in their group, Ballyclare Secondary qualified for U12 Ulster High Schools’ Finals.

Ballyclare had a challenging group in the Finals, however they played some very good rugby and took the lead in all their games, however unfortunately lost all three games. In their first game Ballyclare lost 25-10 to semi-finalists Bangor Academy with Bailey Nixon and Ben Ferguson scoring one try each. Ballyclare then lost 20-5 to Castlederg with Lewis Robinson scoring great solo try. In their final group game Ballyclare lost 30-5 to Markethill with Bailey Nixon scoring our only try.
