Emma McAllister attended the Final of the Dairy Council, Young Cook of the Year competition held at Bangor Academy and Sixth Form College on Thursday 23rd April 2015.
The competition was open to pupils throughout Northern Ireland at KS3, KS4 and those in Special Education schools. Emma submitted an entry in March and was selected as the NEELB Key Stage 3 entry to go through to the Finals of the 2015 competition.
The theme was Northern Ireland Tourism and Emma linked this to the Giants Causeway. She made a ‘Finn McCool’s Salmon & Leek Quiche, served with a mixed salad and cheese crisps alongside a Giant Choc Chip Milkshake.’ Emma competed against five other finalists in a ‘cook off’ situation where she cooked and presented all of her dishes in 60 minutes.
Emma’s dishes were a fantastic success and many people commented on her theme as well as the head judge commenting that it was the nicest pastry she had tasted. Emma was an overall category winner at Key Stage 3 level.
Emma received £50.00 worth of Topshop vouchers for winning the NEELB category and a further £50.00 voucher for winning overall category at Key Stage 3. The Home Economics Department received £350 in total and the teacher, Mrs Lee received a £100 voucher for The Cookery School, Belfast.
Congratulations Emma, we are very proud of your achievement.
