Meet some members
Chloe Hanna – I have been in choir since first year, and have come up through junior and into senior. I thoroughly enjoy the social aspect within the choir and taking part in music festivals, such as Mossgrove Music Festival and concerts in school. The choir do a range of event, such as FISCA, and this is a great way to meet new people and come together with choirs from other schools.
Jonathan Maris – I decided to join the school choir in 6th year and as I was one of the few male members I found it very enlightening to my skills as a singer. After joining the school choir I joined the Harlandic Male Voice choir outside of school. This lead me to take more risks and test my abilities so I have started to take singing lessons and will be performing a song as one of my A level performances pieces.
Last year twenty pupils from our senior choir and twenty pupils from St Patrick’s Boys School joined forces on 5th December at the City Hall in Belfast to take part in a choir competition organised by the Flax Trust.
The choir met on three occasions to rehearse two pieces – ‘Carol of the Bells’ and the Script’s ‘Hall of Fame’. We attended a workshop at the School of Music at Fortwilliam (the photographs from this day are on a notice board outside the Music Department) on Friday the 29th November when we got to know each other better and practice our pieces.
The competition was a great experience for us all and the City Hall a wonderful venue to sing in. We had a great time. We didn’t win any major prizes although the Flax Trust was so impressed with the standard of singing, they decided to award £1,000 to each choir competing.
There were many friendships made and many photographs taken and we hope to keep in touch with the staff and pupils from St Patricks.
On the 23rd October 2014 the Senior Choir performed a selection of their favourite pieces at our annual Presentation Evening.
