In Culture Club this week at BSS we made sushi. We ended up using scissors to cut it as the knife, even though we wet it, didn’t cut through the nori sheets! It tasted good though!
The Year 8 hockey team played their first game of the NEBSSA league against Ballymoney High School. The girls started very strong and quickly maintained a solid win. An excellent result of 6-0 for our year 8 superstars, with goals from Ana G (x3), Faye W (x2) and Ella K (x1). A great full team solid performance. Well done girls!

The U13 Hockey team travelled to Ballymena Academy to play the NEBSSA U13 blitz! This blitz is mainly for Secondary Schools with the option of some Grammar Schools to play their B/C teams.
Our girls started strong beating the following teams:
Ballyclare Sec v Ballymena Academy 2-0 win
Ballyclare Sec v Larne High 1-0 win
Ballyclare Sec v Slemish College- 4-0 win
The girls then qualified for the semi-final against Carrick Grammar and drew 0-0. This then led to both teams competing in run-ins. Sophie C our GK stayed calm and defended her goals well and we ultimately won on run ins.
We qualified for the final! This was against Larne Grammar. With tired legs, the girls played exceptionally well with Lexi Fellowes finding the net for our 1-0 win! U13 NEBSSA Winners!
Congratulations girls and a big thank you to Mrs Hall and Ms Oliver!
Our pupils continue to learn outside the classroom and we take great pleasure in sharing the following Junior School pupils:
- Molly Keys (Year 10) travelled to London to compete in the CRDM Kent Championships. Molly is now age 13 Kent Open Champion.
- Ruby Robinson (Year 9) represented Gleno Young Farmers Club competing in their Floral Art Competition at Ballymena Academy on 15th October. In a very large competitive class Ruby was placed 2nd in her age group (12-14) in her first ever Floral Art competition. The theme was 'Into the wild'.
Congratulations to both pupils in their artistic endeavours. Well Done!

U14 game against Integrated College Glengormley, BSS won 62-19.
In a tighter game than the scoreline suggests Ballyclare started slowly and fell behind early in the game to a try from a strong carry from the IC Glengormley No. 8. Ballyclare recovered to score a couple of converted tries from out half Danny Smith and follow up scores from Alex Janiszewski and Zac Minford which put us ahead 26-12 at halftime. Ballyclare managed to pull away a bit in the second half with more tries from Zac Minford, Alexander Janiszewski x2, Danny Smith, Mark Magee and Harry Scott leading to a final score of 62-19 to Ballyclare. It was an encouraging start to the league section for the team but with plenty to work on ahead of the next fixture.
Ballyclare Try scorers: D. Smith x3; A. Janiszewski x3; Z. Minford x2; M. Magee; H. Scott
