Year 10 - 'World Foods'

Our Home Economics department was busy today continuing their ’World Foods’ theme with the Year 10 groups. Some pupils made Chinese noodle salad, under the watchful eye of Mrs Duncan whilst others sampled and identified mouthfuls of treats from Germany, Poland, the Middle East, India, Italy and France, prepared by Miss Clarke. A great bunch who worked hard to prepare delicious food and were willing to try all the unknown food types. Mrs Beggs also treated her Year 8s to a cooling ice cream.

Electric Ireland Super Schools’ Tournament

The weather set the scene for a brilliant day at the Valley Leisure Centre. The senior team topped their group (P4 W3 D1) and made it to the semi-finals only to be put out by a strong Edmund Rice team. The junior team also played well (P4 D2 L2) with plenty of pitch time during the group stage. The girls really enjoyed their day. Emma Taylor was top goal scorer from BSS. We caught up with two past pupils Katie Porter and Ellen Montgomery, who now attend the Football Academy at Belfast Metropolitan. Well done Damien for running a well organised the event.

Pupil Spotlight - Alice Jones

Following on from the fantastic success at Balmoral last month, Alice is on fire this season. Her team won the Area 17 Prince Phillip Cup on 27 May which qualifies them now for zones in Scotland in July. They also won the shield for best tack and turnout at the competition!

On 28th May she was showing her miniature horses in Dublin with her sister and won Reserve Champion young handler amongst many other ribbons!

She then attended the Mounted Games Association Northern Ireland Individual Championships this weekend and was U15 Reserve Champion!

Great work Alice. You make us very proud.
