Duke of Edinburgh Award - After some challenging weather conditions on their recent practice expedition, the Silver team not only showed they had the skillset to take on any challenge they might come up against but also the grit and determination needed to never give up and get the job done.

Occupational Studies Horticulture are delighted with the arrival of our new working coats designed and secured by Miss Dunwoody and the BFFS team. A big thank you to our local sponsors B Craig & Co. and Scarlett DIY.

On Friday 15th March, GCSE Agriculture and OS Horticulture visited CAFRE Campus at Greenmount. We saw methods of propagation, the vast area of horticultural glasshouses including hydroponics. Everyone enjoyed the Land based engineering department, especially the heavy machinery. Then all of us were converted into “Smurfs” for a trip around the dairy farm centre! After plenty of walking a good lunch was required. Thank you to Toni and her staff for their hospitality at #discoverCAFRE.

This year’s Bronze Duke of Edinburgh group completed their orienteering training day at Glenariff Forest Park on Monday and Tuesday of this week. Despite changeable weather conditions the groups got the chance to put their map and compass skills into practice as well as pick up some practical first aid experience ahead of their practice and qualifying expeditions later in the year. Well done everyone!
