U18 Hockey - McDowell Plate

The U18 squad travelled to Castlederg High School today to play in the 2nd round of the McDowell Plate.

Unfortunately, after a very one-sided game with limited Castlederg circle entries and GK Mia Singleton having no goal saving opportunities, the match ended 0-0 with Castlederg down to 10 players due to a green card.

Our forwards were very unlucky in the circle winning over 7 penalty corners. Reah Little was exceptionally unlucky hitting the post from an excellent strike. Reah (captain) was voted player of the match by her team.

Luck was not on Ballyclare’s side today, losing 4-3 on run ins. All Ballyclare players should be praised for their unwavering sportspersonship, despite the inappropriate behaviour from supporters on the side of the pitch. BSS players rose above, ignoring the poor language and played some excellent hockey. Our GK and each player who stepped up to take a run in, showed outstanding mental toughness and resilience. As a school family we are so proud of you.

A special thank you goes to our Year 14 player Janey Clements who played her last Cup match for BSS. We will miss you Janey.

Well done girls!

Pupil Led Assemblies

As part of the work in Student and Year Forum, each year group in school felt strongly about a pupil message being delivered in how we deal with the current issue with our toilets. Year 8 began this process and these special assemblies will continue for each year group throughout the week.

Pictured are Jayden Doak, David Gawn, Stephen Knox and Olivia Patterson.

Not present but attributors to the assembly are Jaxson Scribbons and Sienna Moore.

Careers Convention

The Ballyclare High and Ballyclare Secondary Careers Convention is back on the annual calendar and what a huge success this year’s event was. We were delighted to open our doors to our own pupils and parents/carers as well as BHS families. Over 70 employers, training agencies, professionals, colleges and universities from across the UK and Ireland attended the event, each sharing their expertise and guidance with the pupils and parents in our learning community.

It was a pleasure to welcome over 1400 guests to the event and the whole school was buzzing with the vast range of opportunities and pathways available to our young people.

We would like to thank all those exhibitors who gave up time to attend our event and the staff and members of the BFFS, who coordinated the event.

Samuel's Motorcross Dream

We have a number of pupils in our school who are achieveing great things outside of the classroom.

This week's spotlight is on one of our Year 10 pupils, Samuel Logan, who is fulfilling his dream by competing in Motocross competitions.

Samuel has enjoyed top placings at Ulster and Scotland Championship level and is constantly in the silverware.

We are very proud to have him in our Ballyclare Secondary School family.

U14 Football Success

The Under 14 boys were successful in the quarter final of the Northern Ireland cup on Friday against Christian Brothers Grammar School. Nothing could separate the two teams and after full time and it was 2-2 with goals scored by Freddie Higgins and Elliot McAuley. After extra time it was Freddie who scored again to make it 3-2 and ensure the boys progressed to the semi-final. Well done boys. We are all really proud of you.

Celebrating Exam Success

Our pupils in Years 11 and 12 received results this morning for the external exams they completed in November 2022. We had some excellent results, with many pupils receiving 'a' grades in one or more of their exams. The pupils should be so proud of the hard work they put in for these exams as it really did pay off. Photographed are some of our top performing students from Year 12. A special well done to Daniel Campbell, Keanu Gault, Jamie Houston, Lewis Martin, Katie Morrison, Leah Morrison, Reece O'Hara and Anna Robinson who all received only 'a' grades this morning.
