On Friday 15th March, GCSE Agriculture and OS Horticulture visited CAFRE Campus at Greenmount. We saw methods of propagation, the vast area of horticultural glasshouses including hydroponics. Everyone enjoyed the Land based engineering department, especially the heavy machinery. Then all of us were converted into “Smurfs” for a trip around the dairy farm centre! After plenty of walking a good lunch was required. Thank you to Toni and her staff for their hospitality at #discoverCAFRE.

This year’s Bronze Duke of Edinburgh group completed their orienteering training day at Glenariff Forest Park on Monday and Tuesday of this week. Despite changeable weather conditions the groups got the chance to put their map and compass skills into practice as well as pick up some practical first aid experience ahead of their practice and qualifying expeditions later in the year. Well done everyone!

The Year 9 hockey team finished off their East Antrim League with a convincing 6-0 win against Glengormley Integrated College. Ruby Lewis opened up the score line with two goals in the 1st quarter. The girls continued the pressure and more goals came. Ruby Lewis scored 3 goals, Lexie Fellowes scored 1 and captain Ivy McFall scored 2 goals. Great team effort by the whole squad! Well done Year 9s!

The boys put in a great effort yesterday against a number of good sides. They unfortunately didn’t quite qualify for the semi-finals but competed very well throughout the day. We had some great performances, especially Harry Lamont on debut being our outstanding defender, some great attacking play from Harry Scott and Matt McConnaughie, but our player of the day was Ethan Porter. Well done boys!
