Football and Rugby Success

The Year 9 Football team defeated Parkhall IC 7-0 in their first game in the East Antrim League. Michael Armour scored a hat-trick, Alexander McGladdery added two goals and Reuben Greer and Harrison Melville also both scored.

The Year 10 team started their East Antrim League campaign with an entertaining 3-3 draw against Parkhall IC. Luke Hill, Jamie Harpur and Cai Collins all scored for Ballyclare Secondary.

Well done to both teams and good luck on Monday against Abbey CC in their next league match!

Under 14 Rugby Success

The Under 14 Rugby Team defeated Dunclug College this week 35-5. Mark Magee scored a hat trick of tries with William McGookin and Zach Turbett also scoring a try each. Dylan Sempey converted all the tries. A game played in difficult conditions, Ballyclare showed signs of promising rugby in the second half with Mark Magee and William McGookin prominent in both attack and defence. Well done boys and good luck against Ashfield next week!

Hockey Success

Well done to both the U18 ad U16 hockey teams this week. The U16 hockey squad who travelled to Castlederg High School on Thursday 12th October to play in the 1st round of the U16 High School Cup. They had a great match, winning 3-0 at full time. Captains: Chloe Montgomery and Estelle McIlwaine. Goal scorers: Faith Thompson and Emma Charlton (2). They will now progress to the Quarter Finals. Good luck!

The U18 squad played Parkhall Integrated College on Wednesday 18th October in the U18 North East Antrim League, winning 5-0. Captains: Reah Little and Emily Crawford. Goal scorers: Reah Little (2), Faith Thompson (2) and Lois Reynolds. They are due to play Carrick Academy on the 7th of November in the first round of the U18 Intermediate Cup. Good luck!

6th Form Kitchen from Abbey Kitchens

Yesterday, our senior prefect team, Head of 6th Form, Miss Collins and Acting Assistant Head of 6th Form, Miss Beattie met to thank Stuart Barnett (former pupil) from Abbey Kitchens and Bathrooms for revamping our 6th Form kitchen. What an amazing job his company has done! Thank you from us all!

A big thank you also must go to our governors and 6th form parents who purchased items to kit out the kitchen area. We are very grateful.

Attendance Trophies

This week we presented attendance trophies to the form classes with the best attendance across each year group for the month of September. Congratulations to 8W, 9O, 10M, 12S, 13L, 14A.

Shoe Box Appeal

As in previous years, Ballyclare Secondary School is supporting the Blythswood Shoebox Appeal. The deadline to donate is Monday 6th November. More information on the appeal (video and checklist) is available at https://blythswood.org/shoeboxappeal/

Macmillan Coffee Morning

We’re delighted to report that an amazing £932 was raised at the annual Macmillan Coffee Morning on Friday 29th September, supported by staff and sixth form pupils. It was lovely to see two past members of staff in school, Mrs Allen and Mrs Dinsmore, who always help with this special event for a very worthwhile cause.

Year 8 Induction Day's at Breckenhill

Over the past month, all of our Year 8 classes have attended an action-packed Induction Day at Breckenhill. Some of their activities included archery, orienteering, tug of war and paintballing.

Success of our Forget Fossil Kitcar Team

On the 28th September we held a very special assembly to celebrate the success of our Forget Fossil Kitcar Team who travelled to Aintree earlier in the month to compete in the Greenpower Educational Trust regional heat. It was previously reported that our team came 4th overall, however, we were delighted when the race officials contacted us to say that the team were in fact placed 3rd so earned a spot on the podium! Very well done to the team!

Congratulations Luke

Congratulations to Luke Agnew (10M) who just completed the Motorsport Ireland championship, where he was placed 2nd! This has gained him a place at the World Finals in Portugal, which take place in October. This is a massive achievement as he competed against a grid of 29 karts over 9 races throughout the year at various tracks in Ireland. Well done Luke!
