Ballyclare Secondary School is celebrating a fantastic achievement after our pupil team, Forget Fossil, won the Greenpower NI & IE Mid-Ulster Heat in May 2026—retaining their title as All-Ireland Champions. Despite challenging conditions, including wet weather and regular downpours, the team succeeded due to their innovation, resilience, and teamwork, competing against schools from across the island.

Greenpower challenges pupils to design, build, and race electric cars, promoting STEM skills and environmental awareness. Forget Fossil’s continued success highlights the talent, determination, and creativity of Ballyclare Secondary students.

Olly competed in the North West 200 Beach Race at Portrush on Friday, 8 May, racing in the small-wheel 85cc category. The event, expertly organised by Knock Motorcycle Club, featured both youth and adult classes and was a great success.

Well done to all BSS athletes who competed at the District Championships—your effort and commitment were outstanding.

The following athletes achieved top-three finishes in their events and have qualified for the Ulster Championships:

• Harry (Year 10): 3rd place – Shot Put

• Mason (Year 9): 1st place

• Daniel (Year 8): 2nd place – High Jump, 3rd place – Long Jump

• Sofia (Year 8): 2nd place – High Jump, 2nd place – 100m

• Charlie (Year 12): 3rd place – Shot Put

Logan had an amazing weekend on Saturday he attended the Semi Finals of Westend Calling. We are delighted to say that he has now received news that he his through to the final on 25th May. It is such a wonderful opportunity to be up against his peers and he received amazing feedback from the judges who said you should be in the Westend right now in any male part of Matilda.

To top off his weekend he then performed at Waterfront Hall last night with Legends of Westend and Broadway including Belfasts own Rachel Tucker, Kerry Ellis and Louise Dearman.

The Silver teams recently kicked off the 2026 Duke of Edinburgh expedition season in the Mourne Mountains, facing tough and changeable weather conditions. It was great to see their skills and training being put into practice, providing a strong benchmark for their qualifying expedition later in the term.
