Back after COVID, we are delighted to announce this year the school production will be Mary Poppins. (Performance dates 14th and 15th December).
We are holding auditions in the Drama department next week for anyone who would like to have a principal role within the show- this is a role which will have a solo song or solo acting lines to be spoken.
Following the open auditions, the casting team will then place pupils into suitable character roles. If you just want to be part of the large chorus (not a principal role) on stage, there is no audition for this, and we will release more rehearsal details shortly.
Auditions will be held in the Drama department (near the school office) from 3-4pm on the following days.
Wednesday 14th September- years 8-10
Thursday 15th September – years 11-14
We would like pupils to prepare a verse a chorus of the following songs
Year 8-10 (all pupils) – Spoonful of Sugar
Year 11-14 (female roles)- Feed the Birds
Year 11-14 (male roles) – Jolly Holiday
The version that will be used during the Audition can be found below. If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to speak to one of the following teachers
Mrs O’Neill, Mrs Stewart, Miss Francis or Miss Beattie
Year 8-10 - Spoonful of Sugar
Verse 1
In every job that must be done
There is an element of fun
You find the fun and snap!
The job's a game
And every task you undertake
Becomes a piece of cake
A lark! A spree! It's very clear to see that
Chorus
A Spoonful of sugar helps the medicine go down
The medicine go down
The medicine go down
Just a spoonful of sugar helps the medicine go down
In a most delightful way
Year 11-14 (female roles) - Feed the Birds
Verse 1
Early each day to the steps of Saint Paul's
The little old bird woman comes
In her own special way to the people
She calls, "Come, buy my bags full of crumbs"
"Come feed the little birds, show them you care
And you'll be glad if you do
Their young ones are hungry, their nests are so bare
All it takes is tuppence from you"
Chorus
"Feed the birds, tuppence a bag
Tuppence, tuppence, tuppence a bag
Feed the birds", that's what she cries
While overhead, her birds fill the skies
Year 11-14 (male roles) – Jolly Holiday
Verse 1
Ain't it a glorious day?
Right as a mornin' in May
I feel like I could fly
Have you ever seen the grass
So green, or a bluer sky?
Chorus
Oh it's a jolly 'oliday with Mary
Mary makes your 'eart so light!
When the day is gray and ordianry
Mary makes the sun shine bright!
Oh, 'appiness is bloomin' all around 'er
The daffodils are smilin' at the dove
When Mary 'olds your 'and
You feel so grand
Your 'eart starts beatin' like
A big brass band!
It's a jolly 'oliday with Mary
No wonder that it's Mary that we love!
