As we enter Children’s Mental Health week we are using time in class assembly this week to look at the “Take Notice” aspect of Take 5. This highlights how it is good for our Mental Health to slow down our thoughts. Even for a moment. Focusing on the here and now: not dwelling on past experiences or worrying about the future. Pupils are learning and practising breathing and grounding exercises that can help with this. Reflecting the Place2Be theme of “My Voice Matters”, pupils have the opportunity to take part in a survey on their experience of school.
Congratulations to the Year 11 football team who defeated Larne High 4-0 in the East Antrim Cup. Our goals were scored by Harley Crawford who scored a hattrick and Charlie Bell. Congratulations to BSS who now progress to the final. Well done boys!

The Year 10 parent/carer consultation afternoon will take place via School Cloud on Thursday 8th February. Consultations will run from 4pm-6pm in 5 minute slots. This will be an opportunity to speak to teachers of subjects your child is planning to study at Key Stage 4. A number of teachers will also be available to advise on new subjects available at Key Stage 4, and there will be an opportunity to book an appointment with Careers staff. There will be a limit of 10 appointments per pupil to allow as many people as possible to access the advice they need.
The booking system will go live at 12 noon on Friday 2nd February and close at midnight on Wednesday 7th February.

Let’s update you on what has been going on in our Take 5 focus!
After learning about the overall research and principles behind the Take 5 approach in year group assemblies, we have been taking a theme each week to explore in Form Class time.
We are well into the swing of these 5 weeks of class assembly.
Last week we thought about “Connect”. We learnt new things about each other with games of People Bingo: Who has had stitches? And does anyone really prefer Custard Creams to Jammie Dodgers?
This week our theme is “Keep Learning”. We are thinking about how to keep learning by testing our literacy, numeracy and general knowledge skills. When we try new things we can feel a sense of achievement and build our confidence.
