Two of our BSS pupils, Olly Kidd and Samuel Logan took part in the North West 200 Beach Race at Portrush East Strand on Friday 9th May. Olly raced in the small wheel 85cc category and was thrilled to be able to take part in Northern Ireland’s busiest race weekend of the year at the North Coast. Samuel came 2nd overall in a more senior class having enjoyed this novel location at such an historic race week. A well run event by Knock MCC. Well done to both!
Yesterday, we had the pleasure of welcoming two incredible visitors from Nairobi to our school — Lucy and Kathleen. They toured our facilities and even joined in on a Geography lesson, sharing their insights and experiences with our students.
Lucy and Kathleen are deeply involved in supporting a settlement community on the outskirts of Nairobi, where thousands were displaced over 30 years ago. Through Lucy’s inspiring leadership, they’ve established a range of life-changing programmes to support those in need — including the founding of Tujisaidie School, which now provides education to over 300 children. Kathleen, a lecturer at the University of Nairobi, brings her academic expertise to the work they do together, helping to shape brighter futures for many.
We’re so grateful for their visit and the opportunity to learn from their powerful stories of resilience, compassion, and community-building.
A big thank you to our school governor, Jonny Campbell-Smyth for this wonderful opportunity.
Year 10 pupils have been studying the topic of holidays in French class and thoroughly enjoyed learning how to play French boules, or as they now know it ‘la pétanque’.

Yesterday, our Head Boy and Head Girl joined other pupils from local schools in Ballyclare to take part in an Act of Remembrance for the 80th Anniversary of VE Day at Ballyclare War Memorial Park. The event was organised by the Ballyclare branch of the Royal British Legion and paid tribute to the bravery and sacrifice of those who served during WWII. The service was a moving moment of remembrance and reflection, uniting generations in gratitude.

Yesterday we marked another milestone in the school lives of our year 12 as they embark on study leave in preparation for their imminent GCSE exams. We wish them concentration in revision, diligent preparation and success in their exams. We look forward to many joining us in September to continue their educational journey in Sixth Form at BSS.
The GCSE and A Level Psychology students have enjoyed bringing the concept of ‘Operant Conditioning’ to life this year, and finally got to trade in their tokens for some well-deserved dominoes.
Mrs Clark and Mrs Colgan are so proud of you all! Wishing you all the best for the upcoming exams and the exciting new chapters to come.
