On Thursday 2nd February 2023 our school is hosting our Area Learning Communities Careers Convention. This is a joint event with Ballyclare High School. We are looking forward to welcoming over 50 contributors to our event. This is a really important time for pupils as they make decisions about GCSE options, A level options, apprenticeships, employment and further and higher education. The event brings together representatives from many sectors to advise and guide our pupils on the options and pathways available to them. The video highlights these. We look forward to seeing you there.
On Monday 16th January, all pupils in Year 8 and some pupils in Year 9 attended Waste Education Workshops hosted by Arc21’s Waste Promotion Officer, Noel Lyons. Arc21 is the Waste Management Group for 6 councils in Northern Ireland.
Pupils had the opportunity to learn about the importance of the 3R’s – Reduce, Reuse, Recycle – and learned some fascinating facts about the difference even small changes can make, for example, recycling a single aluminium can will save enough energy to power a TV for up to three hours! An interactive quiz added an element of competition to the workshop. Winners in each class received prizes such as the ‘Fluffy Geoff’ toy won by Madison Snoddon in 9A (pictured).
Steven Knox from 8K said, “I really enjoyed the workshop. I learned a lot about recycling.” Theo Roberts (8K) added, “It was good fun and I enjoyed answering the questions on the key pads.”
The very best of luck to our Year 10 pupil, Samuel Logan, as he competes in the Arenacross at the Odyssey, Belfast today and Saturday. We are so proud of you.
We had wonderful visual and pupil representations of our great school at the Mossley Primary Transition Fair this week.
Some of our staff have some top tips for our Year 12, 13 and 14 pupils sitting their mock exams next week. Watch the video below and we wish all the best next week.
It is with great sadness that we hear of the passing of our former colleague and Art teacher Bill Blair. Our deepest sympathies go to his wife, Janet and Bill’s family, at this very sad time. He will be fondly remembered by staff and past pupils alike.
