Why study this subject?
We are delighted to offer this new course for 2025. This two-year course is comprised of two equally weighted units, each worth 50% of the course. In Year 11, pupils will study ‘Running a Leisure Event’ (50%) and in Year 12 they will study ‘Sports Leadership’ (50%).
The practical element of sport will be delivered through:
•Athletics
•Badminton
•Cross Country
•Football
•Handball
•Swimming
•Table Tennis
Pupils will also develop skills in coaching in each of these sports.

Assessment is based on practical assignments and leads to the award of either Level 1 or Level 2 provided both units are completed. There are no written examinations.
Points to consider
Due to the practical nature of this course, pupils are advised to have a keen interest in sport, participate regularly in PE and play at least one sport up to a competitive level.
Progression Pathways
This course provides a solid foundation for progression to other accredited courses such as:
•Level 3 Sports and Exercise Sciences
•Level 3 Sports Coaching and Development
This course does not provide a suitable foundation for A-Level study at Ballyclare Secondary School.
