Why study this subject?
We are delighted to offer this new course for 2025. This two year course is assessed through controlled assessment only and comprises of two equally weighted units, each worth 50% of the course. In Year 11 pupils will study ‘The Physical Care of Babies’ (50%) and in Year 12 they will study ‘Child Care: The Play Environment’ (50%).
You will not be permitted to study this course alongside GCSE Child Development.
Assessment is based on practical assignments and leads to the award of either Level 1 or Level 2 provided both units are completed. There are no written examinations.
Progression Pathways
This course provides a solid foundation for progression to other accredited courses such as:
•Level 3 Early Years Education and Care
•Level 3 Diploma in Child-Care
•NCFE CACHE Level 3 Certificate/Diploma in Childcare
This course does not provide a suitable foundation for A-Level study at Ballyclare Secondary School.
