Overview
We are delighted to offer this new course for September 2026. This two-year course is comprised of two equally weighted units, each worth 50% of the course. The two units pupils will study are:
Manicure and Nail Art.
Creative Styling Using Blow Drying Techniques;
Creative Styling Using Blow Drying Techniques
Pupils will develop skills and understanding in the following areas:
- Health and safety issues within hairdressing;
- Communicating with clients;
- Preparation of work area and clients;
- Styling and blow-drying techniques for short and long hair;
- Career opportunities within hairdressing;
- Environmental issues within hairdressing;
- Review and evaluation of performance.
Manicure and Nail Art
Pupils will develop skills and understanding in the following areas:
- The role of the beauty therapist and career opportunities;
- Health and safety procedures necessary in the beauty salon;
- Communicating with clients during consultations to plan treatment;
- Providing manicure treatments;
- Providing nail polishing treatments and nail decoration;
- Environmental issues relating to the use and disposal of products;
- Review and evaluation of performance
Progression Pathways
This course provides a solid foundation for progression to other accredited courses in the Hair and Beauty sector.
Points to Consider
This course does not provide a suitable foundation for A-Level study at Ballyclare Secondary School.
Career Opportunities
You should consider this course if you are interested in working in the Hair and Beauty industry.
Assessment
Assessment is based on practical assignments and leads to the award of either Level 1 or Level 2 provided both units are completed. There are no written examinations.
